Eastern Spinebill

I had another, very exciting, first-time encounter the other day. The photos aren't great, but the birds are! This should be the Australian equivalent of Hummingbirds. They can even hover!

Another UFO

I have absolutely no idea who these two guys are. Can you help? Please, post suggestions!
[edit: 18 March '08] After examining very carefully every single illustration in my Field Guide I had more luck and came to the conclusion that these are Black-headed Honeyeaters.

Singer, but not a sewing machine

For some reason the studio closed an hour earlier yesterday, so I took the longer way home and managed to catch the soft warm light and take some nice pictures which I'll be sharing with you in the next couple of weeks. Below is a singing New Holland Honeyeater. More to come.

Crescent Honeyeater

Small birds are a real challenge to photograph. I haven't had any success so far with my old camera. I hope that the new one will be much better at this as I really like those 'insignificant' creatures. I find myself much more attracted by a Silvereye or a Fairy-Wren than by any magnificent raptor.
