The young Lapwing

Shame shame shame :(
I've mentioned before that I'm more attracted to insignificant little creatures than to magnificent raptors, but this doesn't mean that I enjoy missed opportunities. I consider the following sequence to be one of my most disappointing failures in wild-life photography so far. The target was big, exposed, relatively easy to follow and came very close. I have an excuse for the terrible overexposure and wrong settings. I was very sick with a nasty flu that day and could hardly open my eyes. But... an excuse is just an excuse. It doesn't make the photos better. :(

Gravity is a relative thing
This is probably my favorite from the Lapwing series. Yo can see the young Plover walking gracefully on the water. Gravity doesn't seem to bother it much. I love these birds!

BBC feel
A friend of mine recently made a very nice compliment about my photos and the way I frame (crop) the shots. I was really pleased to hear this from him as he is an awesome artist and animator and I appreciate his opinion very much.
I took this series of pictures two days ago at Peppermint Bay, Tasmania in a warm and cloudy day. I like the mood and the film feel that these photos have. It's tempting to think that they somehow look like stills from a David Attenborough BBC documentary, showing the Plovers in a typical habitat, behaving in a very 'natural' way and looking quite undisturbed.

A Wabbit
Even though nobody in Australia likes the rabbits, it's quite exciting to accidentally spot and photograph one. Poor rabbits here are pests, introduced feral species and are treated as such.
Interestingly the Europeans who brought cats, rabbits, foxes and camels here are not considered to be pests. Those criminals are respectfully called 'the first settlers'.

Portraits
I consider the following photos to be not just close-ups, but real portraits.

Kiwi
The ducklings are growing fast and now they look like the flightless Kiwi. So cute. More to come.
