The Invaders (in color!)
There was a cheesy sixties show called The Invaders (in color!. A Quinn Martin production). Do you remember it?
All the lovely birds below are alien to Australia, introduced species that compete with locals for food and nesting spots.

Spotlight
Here's a male Galah, landing very close to a photograper. The setting wasn't great, but I had the best spotlight of them all – a whole star, and the best warm filter of them all – the whole planet's atmosphere.
The Muskies below were sticking their beaks in somebody else's home. The owner, a Green Rosella, popped out and they flew away. I witnessed exactly the same-scene-same-time-same-place last year. I wonder whether the Muskies are the same too?

Corellas!
I had an unexpected sighting this morning - a pair of Long-billed Corellas. This is the first time I see them since I'm on Tasmania. It's always nice to spot a new species.

Galahs at the front door
Three Galahs have come to 'graze' some Dandelions very close to where I live.

Happy Birthday PoAA!
Well... the big day is today!
One year of blogging, many exciting moments, nearly 20 000 photos taken, 500 photos uploaded and nearly 300 posts!
Many people visited this site, some even dared to 'speak' to me, post comments or email me. Thank you girls and boys! It's really nice to know that you are around and enjoying this or that picture!

I wanted to do something fun and different to mark the occasion and I decided to release this Picassa collage as a Happy Birthday! PoAA bloG poster. It contains nearly all the photos published here during the past 365 days. The file is 3000 by 1687 pixels and 1,5Mb.

What I couldn't finish was the re-uploading. It's only half way through. It's fiddly, it takes time and I can't do it every day. But I am progressing and some day all the old posts will be with much better quality.
What else did I do? A new flash header with fancy buttons and an ultra-flexible and well organized labeling system ;)
And I learned a lot more about the birds and animals that I love so much. I enjoyed watching them, being among them and reading about them.
David Attenborough once said in an interview that capturing intimate moments of wild animals' life and behavior on film is the strongest weapon we have to raise the public awareness about environmental problems and engage public opinion in conservation causes. I would be glad if this blog is another little drop into the flood that totally changed the way of thinking about nature and ecology of the majority of the civilized people during the second half of the 20th century.

An unnoticeable (probably) but important change
I've just changed the explanatory note below the title from "wildlife photography and occasional thoughts on animation" to "wildlife photography through the lens of an animator".
I had two main reasons to do this:
firstly: Over a whole year I only wrote two or three posts on animation. It's not that I have nothing to say. On the contrary – I have a lot, but in my spare time I'd better do other more pleasant things than think of animation. Animation nowadays brings me more grief than anything else. And there is no use of complaining or theorizing either.
secondly: (But it's actually more important) I found a person who speaks on my behalf. In John K and his frequent posts on animation I found someone whose thoughts I agree with 99%, whose tastes in cartoons I share, and whose hopes and frustrations about how this industry goes or should go are my hopes and frustrations.
He is very serious about his blogging. He is an influential figure in the animation world and he loves cartoons as much (or even more) than I do.
So from now on every now and then I may link to one of his posts. And this should be enough.
John K is the spokesman of many of us, I guess. :: http://johnkstuff.blogspot.com/ ::
I will keep the label animation and whenever I feel that a photo might be useful to animators studying action I will tag it.

Today's visitors
This is the last group of non-Australian animals that I'm posting here to make the anniversary week a bit different than any other. This time I decided to only number the photos and leave the names for you, if you would like to play a game and try to ID the 'models' below.

More guests
As these are all alien creatures to an Australian wildlife blog, I included links to Wikipedia articles if you would like to read more about them.

Guests have started to arrive
The first birthday of this blog is just a few days away. Guests from all over the world have started to arrive for the party. The host, unfortunately, is not in his best period right now, but he will try to do everything possible to make all the visitors feel comfortable and have a lot of fun.
Anniversaries come always on certain dates and don't ask whether we feel good about having an anniversary right now, so we'd better be prepared and meet everyone with a smile. :D

If you're curious who the first visitors are, these are some of my parent's cats. I photographed them when I was there several months ago.
